Japanese is the official language of Japan, the 3rd largest economy in the world. It is spoken by around 126 million people and consists of three writing styles - hiragana, katakana and kanji. Hiragana and katakana are used to phonetically spell out Japanese words whereby katakana is used for foreign words. Kanji originated from Chinese characters and are used to represent words.
