Lithuanian language is the official language of the Republic of Lithuania, member of the European Union. It is spoken by about 2.9 million native speakers in Lithuania and 200,000 abroad. Lithuanian is Indo-European language written in Latin alphabet and closely related to Latvian language, one of the two living Baltic languages existing today. Lithuanian is also a recognized minority language in Poland.
